Manages internal and external communications and supports the six colleges, the Innovation and Research Park, and the Health Clinics. Oversees production of the university magazine and communications. This role reports to the AVP of Marketing and Communications, manages a team of two, and is vital to the marketing and communications team that supports the diverse needs of the university community.Who We AreRosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science (RFU) is a graduate health sciences university committed to serving the population through the interprofessional education of health and biomedical professionals and the discovery of knowledge dedicated to improving wellness. Our unique interprofessional education model allows students to learn from and with each other in a variety of settings, including our simulation labs, the student-led Interprofessional Community Clinic, and through partnerships with area hospitals and clinics. RFU is a national leader in interprofessional research and practices, and is nationally recognized for its research in areas including neuroscience, brain-related diseases, inherited disorders, proteomics, cancer cell biology and immunology, cardiac resuscitation, and gait and balance.Key Responsibilities

  • Create and implement a data-driven operations plan that addresses the university's strategic opportunities within communications and public relations.
  • Create and implement a public relations program that aligns with the university's strategic plan. Also develop the appropriate measurement program to optimize efforts.
  • Cultivate and maintain knowledge of and relationships with various media, including local, trade and profession-specific outlets.
  • Lead or guide the work of a collaborative communication team.
  • Coordinate the expertise and resources of the marketing and communications team to meet the department's strategic objectives and serve the diverse needs of the university community.
  • Ensure that internal and external communications are consistent with university image and market positions.
  • Coordinate and oversee the production of the university's annual report in a timely manner each year.
  • Oversee the production of the university magazine, Helix, distributed three times a year.
  • Write, edit, review and assure appropriate distribution of communication/public relations materials that have a university-wide impact including news releases, articles, speeches, etc.
  • As needed, gather, write, edit, coordinate and upload information for/to the website, in coordination with the digital marketing team.
  • Work effectively with faculty, staff and students in each of the colleges and schools.
  • Collaborate with external partners to raise RFU's regional profile.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.Conditions of Employment

  • Minimum five years of experience in journalism, communications or public relations with demonstrated success, preferably in a nonprofit, higher education, health care, association, or agency setting.
  • Bachelor degree in communications, English, or related field.
  • Supervisory experience is required.
  • Experience in successfully researching, planning and launching public relations campaigns.
  • Must have experience in establishing, directing and measuring campaigns with strong emphasis on awareness building or lead generation.
  • Experience leading a cross-functional team.Required Knowledge Skills & Abilities
